Lot 1006
SELEUKID KINGS. Antiochos Hierax, circa 242-227 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30 mm, 16.75 g, 12 h), EΠO mint, probably in Phrygia. Diademed head of Antiochos Hierax to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟΥ Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding two arrows in his right hand and resting his left on grounded bow; in exergue, EΠΟ. HGC 9, 403i. SC 907c. Traces of overstriking on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

Ex Classical Numismatic Group E-Auction 540, 14 June 2023, 184.

The partially visible undertype on the reverse indicates that this coin was overstruck on Alexander type tetradrachm, although whether of the great king himself or one of his successors (such as Seleukos I) remains unclear.
